MPLS Transition Update

April 27, 2012

Dear MPLS Parents and Students,

The Board of Regents, State of Iowa met on-campus April 25-26, and an update on the transition to close the school was provided by President Allen and Dean Watson.  The power point presentation and a comprehensive report on the transition progress as of April 20 are available at:

All transition efforts continue to move forward.  We have been grateful for the support of the MPLS administrators, faculty and staff, and the surrounding school districts as we continue to help students and families prepare for their next academic year.

As always, the school counselors (Ms. Dieken and Ms. Struck) are available to visit with you and your child about the transition of changing schools.  Please contact the counselors with any questions, as they are ready to listen and address any questions or concerns. Ph: 319-273-2185.

Reminder for the 2012-13 year

  • All student academic records will be maintained at the UNI Registrar’s Office starting this summer.  All websites will be updated to keep everyone informed of who to contact for transcripts.
  • Please be sure to inform the school district of your child’s educational plans so schools can plan accordingly.

Cedar Falls Q&A

You may recall from a previous email this Q&A from Cedar Falls.

Can you provide parents with a date that they will know which elementary their child will attend?

  1. Attendance center decisions will be made by May 15th at the latest. Parents will be notified as soon as the decisions are made.

*Enrollment paperwork is completed at school districts now - at NO cost, and this paperwork does NOT preclude an open enrollment application.

*Registration paperwork is completed in August for school districts – families pay registration fees.

Is a parent signature required to transfer records between school districts?

  1. No, once a parent has enrolled their student into a school district, the transfer of records occurs between the schools (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, Buckley Amendment). Receiving schools do not want student records until the receiving school district requests the student’s records.

The next email update will be sent by May 4, 2012.  Thank you.
